Wellington Region Hogmanay 2016

A large contingent of Johnsonville Club members saw the New Year in at the Wellington Region Hogmanay on 31 December at the Crofton Downs School Hall.

With Elizabeth Ferguson as MC, eight sets danced the night away to the fabulous music from the five-piece band.

We were thrilled that former Johnsonville dancers could join us for the evening – Selwyn and Joanne along with their five-year old daughter Yee Hsuen from Singapore, and Yu Hayakawa from Japan. To bring health and prosperity to the New Year, Selwyn was First Foot!

Thanks to John Gregory and team for organising such a great event. We wish all a ‘Guid New Year’.

Pre-Christmas Lunch 2016

For those members who could attend at this busy time of year, our pre-Christmas lunch at Cafe Thyme in Johnsonville on Friday 9 December was a great occasion to catch-up with lots of laughter, good food and chatter!

An often-heard comment was how much we missed dancing (and the associated fun, fitness and friendship) even though our dancing season finished just a few weeks ago 🙂 Thanks to our President Kristin Downey for organising another successful social event!

Tartan and Final Night 2016

What a great Tartan and Final Night for the season on 21 November! With 5 sets on the floor dancing the fantastic programme from tutor Rod Downey to the music from Peter, Don, Lynne, Aileen and Heather.

Thanks to all who helped set up the hall with the Club bunting, the supper team, President Kristin Downey for all her work during the year, the photographers and everyone for coming along and dancing the night away.

Halloween Samhain 31 October 2016

The idea for a Halloween-themed night ‘popped up’ when we realised (only five days out), that Halloween fell on our Monday club night this year.

Tutor Rod Downey had fun puttng together a programme of dances with a supernatural theme inspired by the Gaelic festival of Samhain. Club members entered into the spirit of things and reinvented themselves in short order as witches, devils, and more.

We danced widdershins, with kitchen Faeries, and were haunted by ‘The Big Grey Man’ of John Drewry’s Ferla Mor, danced to its own unique and very atmospheric music.

Thank you to John Patterson for his ‘out-of-this-world’ photos!

New Dancers Celebration 2016

There was a great contingent from Johnsonville on 15 October at the New Dancers Celebration in Lower Hutt! Lots of fun with the bright yellow and black ‘buzzy bee’ theme and top-tapping music from Roaring Jelly.

Congratulations to our newer dancers for dancing so well and thanks to our more experienced dancers who were there to support them.

50 Golden Years Celebration

Our event of the year on 20 August – Johnsonville’s big 50 Golden Years Celebration – was attended by an enthusiastic crowd of around 150 people at Karori Recreation Centre.

Our Bright Mid-Winter’s Night!

What a great Bright Mid-Winter’s Night on Saturday 2 July! Thanks so much to Kristin and the Committee for organising such a fun evening full of laughter, Rod for devising the programme and selecting the music, and all the members who helped set up the hall and clean up.

And to everyone for having such a fantastic time!
